Do you know how many millionaires live in the United States? The number is a record 10 million. It is not all that uncommon today. More than 300,000 joined these ranks in the past year alone. What do all self-made people in this group have in common? They are self-starters.
No one has ever become successful in their own right without being a self-starter with the ability to get things done. If you want to jump start your life or your career, follow these four easy steps and you will achieve more than you ever dreamed possible.
Step one is to SET A GOAL AND MAKE IT REALISTIC. Many people struggle through life with no idea what it is they want to do. We all like to dream, but a dream is something in your imagination that you hope will happen. A goal is something you can put down on paper. If you have not established written goals in the past, make your first goal short-term. Develop a habit of setting written goals and make them realistic. Be sure you do not establish overlapping and conflicting goals such as achieving record performance and going on vacation at the same time. We are all programmed to strive to achieve our goals. If you simply write your goals down on paper, you will be far ahead of most people. Always remember you are the world’s foremost authority on what it is that you want out of life.
The next step is to learn to MOTIVATE YOURSELF. You need to get yourself excited about whatever it is you want to accomplish. Whatever you can vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe in, and enthusiastically act upon will become your reality. You will become what you think about every day. Put your imagination to work and see yourself reaching your goals, enjoying the benefits, and think about how successful achievement will help you and your family. Build a burning desire deep inside yourself to achieve your goals. This will help you to break out of your comfort zone and enthusiastically act upon things you need to do to be successful in achieving your next goal.
Step three is to GET ORGANIZED AND MAKE A PLAN. Write down specifically what you plan to do and when you plan to do it. This helps you get started every day. Some days we are better able to make decisions than others. If your plan is written, all you have to do is follow it on the days you are not as motivated. Start with each goal and work backwards to organize the details of your plan. Your plan should include the key strategies you want to implement and time lines to keep you on track. Make them specific and include as many details as possible.
The final step to being an effective self-starter is to TAKE ACTION. This is the most important step of all. Do not wait for someone else to do it. Get involved every day. Do something positive each day of your life to help you achieve your goals. Discipline yourself to follow through on your plans. Develop habits of getting started on time every single day. Think of an imaginary time clock on the dash if your car and “clock in” on time. Everyone is absolutely equal when it comes to the amount of time in a day. And finally, remember these 10 little, 2 letter words, “If it is to be, it is up to me!” You can make it happen!
